In fact, we built our own medical billing business with a business plan starting from the ground up. We know that part of an entrepreneur’s success is having access to business resources as well as community support. That is why we put together some of our favorite and world-class business-building resources for Portland based entrepreneurs.
These are organizations who share an important mission of strengthening the small business backbone of our local economy. We’ve been closely connected with them as we develop and offer our own Medical Billing in a Box program, where we teach entrepreneurs how to build and run a successful medical billing service business.

The Portland SCORE chapter is run by about 70 volunteers who have in-depth, practical experience running and managing businesses. They have chosen to give back to their community and help others start and grow their business through free counseling. guides available in their collection! Portland SCORE is the 11th chapter to be formed and they deliver over 50 workshops each year.
Portland SCORE Resource Library
This Chapter of Portland SCORE houses a fantastic library featuring business guides. Startup costs, marketing tips, accounting, record-keeping, management, legal considerations – there are so many considerations when creating a business! “But every business is unique” you say – True, that’s why they have over 200 specific business guides available in their collection!
Business Oregon Incubators and Accelerators
Business incubators and accelerators can be critical to helping entrepreneurs clear the many obstacles involved in creating a successful business.
From this platform, entrepreneurs benefit from an ease of access to top-notch experts, and funding! Partners include Oregon State University, Oregon Technology Business Center, Portland State University Business Accelerator, and Portland Seed Fund.
Business for a Better Portland
Founded in 2016, this organization provides local business leaders with efficient ways to collectively address Portland’s most pressing issues. They help to channel the good intention of small business owners into a larger voice, and together make a longer lasting impact on the community on topics like homelessness and black lives matter.
OSBU is a popup coalition that was started as Oregon State leaders addressed the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Their mission is to unite and amplify the voices of organizations serving small businesses by focusing on Black, Indigenous, people of color (BIPOC), and rural entrepreneurs to ensure their needs are met.
Portland Women in Tech (PDXWIT) empowers individuals within the Portland-area tech industry by offering community and skill-building events, mentorship, and access to jobs and opportunities. They’re dedicated to nurturing community leaders, advocating for the underrepresented, and inspiring change both locally and in the wider world. They leverage their leadership, commitment and influence towards reducing the imbalances that exist today in an industry that is shaping the future of humanity.
Oregon Women’s Business Center- Mercy Corps NW
Mercy Corps Northwest hosts the only Women’s Business Center in Oregon, funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration. The WBC provides education, financing, and resources to help entrepreneurs succeed, with extra consideration for specific challenges and issues for women entrepreneurs.
